“When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars.”
Those are the famous lyrics from the song ‘Aquarius’, by the group The 5th Dimension, from the musical Hair.
But what do these words mean exactly?
For Andrew Goodman, owner of Aquarius Wellness Center for Healing Arts, these lyrics meant the prophesying of what would come to be his ultimate vision:
To be a space of healing and wholeness for clients and wellness professionals alike; a refuge that nourishes body, mind and spirit, in service to a happier, healthier, more peaceful planet…one person at a time.
Age of Aquarius
The Age of Aquarius, or simply the Aquarian Age, is an astrological time period that the Earth is currently moving into. Astrologers tell us that each astrological time period lasts an average of 2,150 years. Astrologers determine this time period by taking the 26,000 years of Earth’s precessional rotation (the shift in the orientation of the Earth’s axis rotation) and dividing it by 12, which is the number of zodiac signs.
But these astrological ages don’t proceed in the same order of the zodiac signs we’re used to from our understanding of astrology, where Aquarius precedes Pisces. In determining the sequence of astrological ages the order is reversed (or retrograde). Following this understanding, our planet is leaving behind the Age of Pisces and entering the Age of Aquarius.
In astrological meaning, the age of Pisces (the world we’re leaving behind) represents power, money and control. Astrologically, the Age of Aquarius represents cooperation, humanitarianism and peace.
What Does the Age of Aquarius Mean for Humanity?
Essentially, the commencement of the Age of Aquarius makes room for a fundamental shift in the consciousness of humankind. Spiritually, this means a shift away from duality and self-centered thinking towards a more humanitarian perspective that considers the oneness of all beings.
Many ancient cultures ingrained this belief into the very fabric of their civilizations. These included cultures that evolved in opposite corners of the Earth such as the Egyptians and the Mayans. These individualized civilizations all predicted this shift in consciousness and that it would occur during an era of inter-connectivity. In India specifically, ancient Hindu belief has maintained that with this dawning of a new age of awareness, the Kundalini energy that dwells dormant within all living beings will awaken as an inevitable response to this expanded consciousness.
Coincidentally, or not, Aquarius also represents in astrological terms: major technological advancements such as electricity, computers, flight and general freedom associated with invention. Many believe that technology, the internet and various resources that we have available to us today comply with a plan laid out by the Universe. This plan, they believe, has been necessary to allow for more people to increase their awareness about the possibilities of the Age of Aquarius and all it represents spiritually, thereby leading eventually to critical mass and worldwide adoption (see The 100th Monkey Effect).

Back to the lyrics from the song ‘Aquarius’. The cosmological prediction from this 1969 hit song actually foresaw a very real and rare astrological convergence. And it occurred on February 14, 2009, which happens to be a day of cosmic significance for Andrew.
For Andrew, this was more than a coincidence. This was a synchronicity. It moved him to investigate the cosmic significance even further. He came across author, physicist, astrologer, and cosmologist, Jude Currivan, who wrote what is now a well-circulated letter explaining this astrological event. With this astrological occurrence, we had the cosmic ingredients for Love, Relationships, and Spiritual Transformation. All of which are hallmarks of the predicted Age of Aquarius.
Though astrologers are at odds about when the Age of Aquarius actually begins, for many the intuitive song lyrics from ‘Aquarius’ were confirmation enough. Many spiritual leaders feel as though this alignment was the support our planet needed to enter into this new phase of heightened, intuitive awareness. For many, it was seen as the universal go-ahead for the collective consciousness that allows for the flow of Aquarian ideals.
The Vision of Aquarius Wellness
As someone devoted to the exploration of human well-being—due in large part to an over-abundance of various stresses over the course of his own life—Andrew one day dreamed of opening his own wellness center. A Sanctuary for the Senses, if you will, which actually became the name of his first massage business in San Francisco in ‘03-’04. He saw his wellness center as a way to be part of the solution to the many problems he saw all around him. He saw it as being a constructive response to his own challenges, physical, mental and emotional, by channeling them into service to others! Being a massage therapist, Andrew knew he could use his talents toward that end.
When it came time to turn his dream into reality in its most current iteration, choosing the name ‘Aquarius Wellness’ became an obvious choice in light of the above mentioned cosmic convergence. As an innately spiritual person, Andrew wanted Aquarius Wellness to be modeled after his intuitive belief in the mind-body connection.
Ancient Greek ruins of the Asclepeion on the island of Kos where Hippocrates, the ‘Father of Western Medicine’, studied medicine in the 5th century BCE.
During his travels throughout the world, Andrew visited Greece. Ancient Greece is widely regarded as the birthplace not only of democracy but of modern medicine. Its roots date back to the 5th century BCE and to Hippocrates, known as the ‘Father of Western Medicine’. Hippocrates was an advocate for the ‘Art of Rubbing’ as essential training for any physician. Rubbing is a term that can easily be translated into our modern understanding of massage therapy.
While in Greece, Andrew visited the ancient amphitheater of Epidaurus, one part of a healing complex known as an Asclepeion. As holistic healing sanctuaries, Asclepeions were built throughout Greece (Hippocrates studied medicine at an Asclepeion on the island of Kos). They were established in beautiful, natural settings to allow for spiritual energy to flow. These healing centers were gathering places where people would come for purification, cleansing baths and nourishment over the course of several days. Asclepeions were also where people would come for dream therapy and spiritual guidance.
Inspired by the concept of Asclepeions, Andrew’s vision for what would become Aquarius Wellness was coming to life. He discovered a calling with purpose, and a meaningful way to give back to our amazing planet and her troubled inhabitants. Andrew set out to create his wellness sanctuary, rooted in an age old understanding of the subtleties and complexities involved when attempting to induce much-needed wellness of body, mind and spirit in complicated beings who are often stuck in the inertia of their familiar neuronal pathways.
Overcoming the fight-or-flight response (also known as the acute stress response and a modern day source of chronic anxiety, fear and separation) is no small challenge; it was a challenge for the ancient Greeks and is ever more so in our modern, technologically connected and infinitely more complex world of today!
However, through personal practices and rituals such as yoga, tai chi, meditation, music therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, energy work, skincare, etc., we are assisted in our cosmic evolutionary journey as individuals, toward the aim of greater peace and integration within ourselves, then extending outward in ever widening spheres of influence to our relations with others, between societies, and ultimately as a species to the planet as a whole, living being, or Gaia.

Among the most moving words of any song ever written appear in the first verse of the song Aquarius, and they are a constant source of inspiration for Andrew since childhood, and more recently in his quest to deliver, in his own small way, on the shining promise of the New Age!
